The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to close a portion of Hawthorne Boulevard (SR-107) in both directions this week for an emergency pavement project.

On Monday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., crews will close two lanes on southbound Hawthorne Boulevard between Sepulveda Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway (State Route 1).

On Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., crews will close two lanes on northbound Hawthorne Boulevard between Pacific Coast Highway and Sepulveda Boulevard.

The closures are weather permitting and subject to change. At least one lane will remain open in both directions at all times.

The $5 million emergency pavement project includes replacing damaged asphalt, restriping the area, and installing new loop detectors that help monitor traffic flow on both directions of Hawthorne Boulevard from Pacific Coast Highway (SR-1) to Fashion Way.

R.J. Noble Company of Orange is the contractor.

The project is expected to be completed as early as this month.
