Torrance Transit Awarded the FTA FY 2021 Grants for Bus and Bus Facilities Program Funding

On Monday, March 21, 2022, Torrance Transit was awarded federal funding in the amount of $6.28 million by congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA). As part of the Federal Transit Administration’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, Torrance Transit System submitted an application called the “Fleet Modernization Project 2.0”. This project will allow Torrance Transit to purchase five (5) battery-electric buses that will replace five gasoline-electric hybrid buses that are coming to the end of their useful operating life and to construct an electric bus vehicle charging station. These buses are part of the agency’s ongoing effort to decrease greenhouse gas emissions for the residents of Torrance and the South Bay.  The project will also improve bus service as Torrance Transit enhances its existing network in this region.

“Torrance Transit is very excited and truly grateful to be the recipient of this grant award,” stated Kim Turner, Director of the Torrance Transit System. “These funds will support our efforts to transition to a zero-emission bus fleet and expand our service levels in the community. These federal funds will also help our region recover from the effects of COVID as well as reduce emissions levels and congestion on local streets and roads. We truly thank Congresswoman Maxine Waters and her staff, our elected officials and our patrons for their support.”
