UPDATE - 5/20/2024

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, Torrance Transit will be providing buses to bring members of the public to Metro Headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles so they can provide their feedback in person. Buses will leave from the Mary K. Giordano Regional Transit Center (465 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503) at 8 AM. Plan ahead and let us know you are coming: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Q9Pbvm5YrDmjSJ6e-22WVtxePWAZihj11Wpz9q0HVxE/edit?ts=663d620a

At the LA Metro Executive Management Committee Meeting on April 18, 2024, Board Member (and County Supervisor) Holly Mitchell made a motion to move the vote to select a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for the C-Line Extension to the Board Meeting on May 23, 2024 at 10am. This would allow more time for her communities to learn about the staff recommendation using the 170th/182nd Grade-Separated Light Rail Transit Alternative (ROW), also referred to as the Hybrid Alternative.

To learn more about the Hybrid Alternative, you can view the video here:

On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the Torrance City Council voted to continue its support for the city’s current position of using the Right-of-Way and accepting the LA Metro’s C-Line into Torrance. Members of the public should continue to attend or call into LA Metro’s Committee and Board meetings monthly to voice their opinion on this matter.

Metro Board encourages members of the public to continue participating at these upcoming meetings, leading up to the Board Vote in May.

Help Shape the Future of Transit in the South Bay

Metro’s C Line (Green) Extension to Torrance

L.A. Metro has plans to connect more of the South Bay by extending the C-Line (Green) from Redondo Beach (Marine) Station to the new Mary K. Giordano Regional Transit Center in the City of Torrance. This project would bring light rail to the South Bay to provide alternatives to traffic along the I-405 Freeway corridor, with connections to the A (Blue) and E (Expo) Lines. Trains from both the Metro C-Line (Green) and the future Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project would run on this new extension and connect riders to two new Metro stations (one in Redondo Beach and one in Torrance).

This extension will help relieve traffic congestion and expand passenger access in the City of Torrance and surrounding communities. In the coming months, the Metro Board will decide what route the light rail will take through Torrance. As part of the process, Metro has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to study the options.

The Torrance City Council supports the plan to keep the light rail line on Metro’s Right-of-Way and off of Hawthorne Blvd.

When will LA Metro make a final decision about the project?

Currently, the LA Metro Board has been holding meetings to hear from the community about the Draft EIR and then will vote on a Locally Preferred Alternative in the Spring 2023.
